One dog was tied to a railing at Brooklyn’s Atlantic Terminal in New York City – and no one stopped to help. The dog was wearing a prong collar and had a black plastic bag for a bed.

Marisa Grimshaw from Mr. Bones & Co. animal rescue said the dog had been there for about an hour, and no one had made a call to the police.

Marisa can’t imagine how many people walked past the dog and didn’t even stop to think that wasn’t a place for a dog to be ‘living.’

But Sarah Brook saw her. Sarah was on her way to work, and when she saw the dog, Sarah stayed with her until help came. Sarah called the police who then called animal control.

The dog was taken to a public shelter in Brooklyn and named Betsey. Betsey was shy when she arrived but wagged her tail. Marisa called Betsey a ‘throwaway mama’ dog.

She was used only for breeding and then she was abandoned. Betsey had pressure sores, and her feet were stained from having to live in filth, and her nails were overgrown.

Betsey will be moved to a temporary home until her forever home is found.

Betsey is going to need someone who is very patient because she doesn’t know how to play with toys or walk on a leash.

But, she is a sweet and loving dog.

If you can, consider making a donation to help pay for Betsey’s medical care by visiting Mr. Bones & Co.’s website.

Share away, people.
