Dwayne Johnson earned his tough guy nickname “The Rock” during his time as a top wrestler. These days, however, his life is very different. And the star gave an insight into what he’s really like as a dad when he shared a photo of his daughter, Jasmine.

Johnson was born in Hayward, California on May 2, 1972. His father Rocky Johnson and his grandfather on his mother’s side were both professional wrestlers. And before long, he followed them into the ring.

From a young age, Johnson was a skilled athlete. He was a particularly strong footballer and was offered a full scholarship to play for the University of Miami, which he accepted. After graduating with a degree in physiology and criminology, he briefly joined the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders in 1995.

However, Johnson was dropped from the team’s practice roster just two months after the season began. He subsequently shifted his focus to wrestling. His father wasn’t happy about Johnson’s decision to begin with but eventually decided to train his son personally.

Johnson was part of the World Wrestling Federation – now known as the WWE – from 1996 to 2004. While he became known as one of the finest wrestlers in history, the now-46-year-old has since enjoyed even greater success in front of the camera as an actor.

The star landed his first major starring role in 2002 with The Scorpion King after having appeared in The Mummy Returns the previous year. Johnson then began to receive steady work in Hollywood, with one of his biggest parts to date being Luke Hobbs in the Fast and Furious saga.

More recently, Johnson has appeared in San Andreas and Central Intelligence, as well as the reboots Baywatch and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. He also voiced the character of Maui in the hit Disney film Moana. But despite his busy career, The Rock has remained focused on his family.

He met his first wife, Dany Garcia, while studying at the University of Miami. She graduated from the college in 1992 and went on to join its board of trustees. The couple tied the knot on May 3, 1997 and welcomed daughter Simone into the world four years later.

However, Johnson and Garcia revealed in June 2007 that they’d separated. The previous year, he had met Lauren Hashian while filming the movie The Game Plan. Her father was Sib Hashian, the late drummer with the band Boston, and she and Johnson began dating shortly after the end of the actor’s marriage.

The pair still haven’t married, but they’ve been together for more than a decade now. The first of their daughters, Jasmine, was born in December 2015 and they welcomed their second, Tiana, a little under three years later. And in September 2018 Johnson gave a touching insight into his life as a father.

Johnson shared a photo of himself with Jasmine on Instagram that has since been liked almost five million times. In the accompanying caption, he relayed their conversation from earlier that day. “Come here baby, give Daddy a kiss,” he had told his child. “I gotta go to work.”

However, Jasmine informed Johnson that he couldn’t leave until he had his nails painted. While he tried to refuse, his daughter was adamant. “No Daddy, you really need your nails painted – as she looks up at me with her mama’s gorgeous blue eyes,” Johnson wrote.

Johnson admitted that he soon gave in. “Yes, you’re absolutely right – Daddy needs his nails painted,” he told the two-year-old. The sweet photo showed the star patiently sitting beside his daughter as she decorated his nails in a shade of red.

In his Instagram post, Johnson added the hashtags “#PapaBearPriorities” and “#NoRemoverNeeded,” suggesting he had no intention of taking off the nail polish before heading to work. The Rock had developed a reputation for being a tough guy as a professional wrestler, so fans were delighted to see a softer side of him as he spent time with his little girl.

Johnson was described as “a big teddy bear,” in fact, and some people admitted that the heartfelt moment between the dad and his daughter had brought tears to their eyes. “There is nothing like the love of a father!! This warms my heart,” one viewer wrote. Another agreed, adding, “I love that. You are such a great guy.”

Others, meanwhile, praised Johnson for demonstrating that playing with your little girl doesn’t necessarily undermine your manliness. “That’s stinkin’ cute!” one commenter shared. “Thank you for showing men that loving your daughter does not somehow destroy your masculinity and you can still get your nails painted and be a man and a loving father at the same time!”

This isn’t the first time that The Rock has been applauded for doting on his family. In June 2018 he shared a photo that showed him feeding Hashian her dinner while she nursed their baby girl. “My pleasure. So much respect to her and all mamas out there holding it down and running things,” Johnson wrote. “Just landed and good to get all my girls settled in.”

Johnson recently completed work on the upcoming Disney film Jungle Cruise, in which he stars opposite Emily Blunt. He’s also filming a Fast and Furious spin-off movie titled Hobbs and Shaw. Nonetheless, it seems that his favorite role of all is being a dad.

The 46-year-old posted a moving tribute to Jasmine on Women’s Equality Day in August 2018. “She can be anything she wants. She can sit at any table,” Johnson wrote. ”She can trailblaze a path, while humbly and gratefully recognizing those before her who paved the way. She and her big sister, Simone and her baby sister, Tiana Gia will always have a strong voice and always make a positive impact.”

“She can also just forcefully shove a buttery, delicious croissant in daddy’s mouth when daddy is on a very strict diet,” Johnson added. His comments came three years after he stated in an episode of Oprah’s Master Class that nothing makes him happier than his kids. “I realized being a father is the greatest job I have ever had and the greatest job I will ever have,” Johnson said.
