Zeus the cat said the final farewell to his best dog friend, Sam months ago when he passed away. However, he still cannot stop longing for his canine companion. And something happened recently that provided evidence for it.

No matter how different Zeus and Sam were, they had a strong bond between themselves and they showed it in amazing ways.

Zeus always tried to cuddle with Sam and play with him, but Sam was always uninterested,” Emma Catanzarite, the pair’s owner, told The Dodo. “Zeus loved to tease him all the time.”
He only wanted to be close mostly.

While in most cases, it’s the cats who “tolerate” the dogs, Sam and Zeus were just opposites! Sam did a lot to bear with the cat’s silly behaviour.

Unfortunately, two months ago, they got separated forever when Sam died and left Zeus all alone.
“Zeus seemed really lonely after Sam passed away,” Catanzarite said. “He followed my mom around a lot more during the day and he meowed a lot after he died like he was looking for him. The day Sam died, we had him wrapped in a blanket and my mom came in the room to find Zeus sleeping on top of him like he finally got the chance to cuddle with him.”
Nevertheless. Zeus has found a way to reconnect with Sam.

Catanzarite’s brother had kept Sam’s old collar on a bookshelf in his room after he died. Zeus recently found it and that was when his heart seemed to rejoice.
“I saw Zeus sniffing by the bookshelf and then he jumped up and sat right by the collar,” Catanzarite said. “It made me so sad seeing how happy he was to find it and finally smell Sam again.”
It wasn’t certain if just Sam’s smell was enough for Zeus it be happy but it sure seemed like it.
“He seemed so happy when he discovered it,” Catanzarite said. “I think it might have helped him.”

Although these two buddies will never be together again, Zeus knows exactly where to find Sam’s presence when he misses him!
