One of the most exciting periods for an expectant parent comes after the initial announcement of the happy news. Meghan Markle can certainly attest to that, as her husband Prince Harry confirmed her pregnancy in October 2018. However, while the due date is some way off, the Duchess of Sussex already has the perfect gift in mind if she gives birth to a girl.

Born in August 1981, Meghan grew up in Los Angeles, California, with aspirations to become an actress. With that in mind, she attended the Northwestern University School of Communication, where she studied both international relations and theater. Prior to her graduation, though, she made her small screen debut in 2002.

Meghan’s first part was a small guest appearance on the TV show General Hospital. After graduating the next year, she featured in a number of other television programs, including CSI: NY, 90210 and Fringe. It wasn’t until 2011 that the actress finally made her big breakthrough.

Following several roles on the small screen, Meghan landed the part of Rachel Zane in the hit legal drama Suits. As a series regular, her popular character appeared in more than 100 episodes. In 2016, though, her life changed forever.

While filming Suits in Toronto, the actress met Prince Harry, who was in Canada for his brainchild, the Invictus Games. Not long after that, it was revealed that the pair were a serious item, which threw Meghan into the public spotlight like never before. Indeed, she subsequently became the most searched-for actress on Google that year.

As their relationship blossomed, the couple then confirmed their engagement in November 2017. Not surprisingly, it was also announced that Meghan would be leaving Suits, as she prepared to take on a very different role. However, this wouldn’t be the actress’ first taste of married life.

Indeed, Meghan first walked down the aisle with her then boyfriend Trevor Engelson back in 2011, but their time as man and wife didn’t last long. Just two years after saying their vows, the couple announced their divorce. Despite that experience, though, the 37-year-old pressed ahead with her wedding plans alongside Prince Harry, penciling in the big date.

With the eyes of the world watching, Meghan and Prince Harry finally tied the knot in May 2018, as she became the newest member of Britain’s royal family. And the good news didn’t stop there, as the happy couple confirmed that they were expecting their first child together a few months later.

“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” the statement added. Kensington Palace also shared that message on its official Twitter account, garnering a massive response.

Indeed, the royal tweet earned over 60,000 retweets from online users, as well as close to 280,000 likes. Meanwhile, the announcement also generated thousands of responses on the social media website, with people keen to celebrate the news of another royal baby.

However, while the couple prepare for their impending parenthood, Meghan already has an idea for a baby present. Back in 2015 celebrity magazine Hello! spoke to Meghan about her role in Suits. During the conversation they also touched on the topic of style, asking the future Duchess of Sussex if she owned a piece of jewelry that had “a special meaning” to her.

“I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch,” Meghan responded. “When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version.” At that point, she made a revelation that wouldn’t be truly felt for another three years.

“I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.,’” Meghan continued. “And I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.” Fast forward three years and some suggested the Duke and Duchess were hoping to have a baby girl.

Those particular rumors culminated a week or so after the baby announcement, as the couple were in Australia for the 2018 Invictus Games. “It’s great to be back in Australia, and especially even more so, this is my wife’s first trip here, so I’m very excited to show her this incredible country of yours,” said Prince Harry during an event in Sydney.

“We’re both absolutely delighted to be here and to see you serving beer and tea at an afternoon reception in true Aussie style,” Prince Harry continued. “We also, genuinely, couldn’t think of a better place to announce the upcoming baby, be it a boy or girl, so thank you very much.”

Then, while watching a cycle race in Sydney, Prince Harry received some well-wishes from one of the fans in attendance. “Congratulations, I hope it’s a girl,” they said. At that point, he felt compelled to respond. “So do I,” he said, which further fanned the flames of speculation regarding the next royal baby.

As for Meghan’s watch, there is some symmetry to the past. Indeed, the late Princess Diana also wore a Cartier Tank, with the company sharing a picture of her on their Instagram page back in September 2017. “Iconic beauty,” read the accompanying message. “Princess Diana with her Tank watch, circa 1995.”

With that in mind, there’s been some suggestion that Princess Diana’s choice of timepiece was the inspiration behind Meghan’s purchase. Now, some two decades later, the 37-year-old’s future royal daughter could follow in the footsteps of her famous grandmother by wearing it too.
