He tried for a year to solve the problem on his own, but Johnnie was told that he was being evicted from his home. It was the home he had lived in for his entire life, where he and Flora had raised their children and had shared countless memories.

Johnnie refused to leave, and when he did, he made headlines on the day that he was evicted. He was strapped to a stretcher and carried out of the house.
They took him to the hospital to be evaluated. The photo of Johnnie on the stretcher was posted by The Greatest Generations Foundation, a veterans advocacy group.
The story touched people around the country – how could this 90-year-old man who was also a veteran be treated so poorly?
