This Grieving Cat Hasn’t Left His Human’s Grave For An Entire Year

Mourning the death of a loved one is always difficult, even when that loved one is your pet. Despite what some believe about an animal’s feelings, loss can seem just as difficult for the four-legged members of the family.
For proof, look no further than this cat in Indonesia. She lost her owner over a year ago, and what she’s doing now is utterly heartbreaking.
A cat in Central Java, Indonesia has received quite a bit of attention lately. Each day, she will lie in the dirt and cry over her late owner’s grave. Despite a number of locals who offer her water and food, the poor thing has refused to leave.

A passerby named Keli Keningau Prayitno even tried to adopt the kitty, but all she wanted to do was stay at the grave. “I thought she was homeless and tried to help, but every time, she would keep returning to the same place,” he said in an interview. “Since the cat’s mother died, she has stayed here at the grave. She does not want to go home. She has been here for almost a year.”

One day, Keli noticed something strange: the cat left the grave. “I followed her and she was going to the home where she used to live, and the lady’s children would feed her,” he said.

After the grieving kitty visited her late owner’s home, she promptly returned to the grave, where she rolled around and meowed desperately. “We take some food and water to the cat, but she still likes to go home. She’s at the grave everyday,” Keli said.

The blue gravestone has practically become the cat’s home. “It’s very sad to see. It shows just how close animals are to their owners,” said Keli.

This sad cat proves that a genuine sense of connection and loss is not limited to just one species.

One could only hope that, in due time, this cat will be able to move on from her loss and start a new life with a different owner. In the meantime, it’s clear that she and her owner must have been extremely close!
