One day at the end of June, they went on one of their usual walks.

Unfortunately, this walk would prove to be anything but usual. As they were walking, they approached something strange in the road.

At first, Paula didn't even see that there was anything in the road at all.

“It was a beautiful morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally almost stepped on a rattlesnake,” explained Paula. Luckily, her beloved dogs were there with her that morning.

Paula is extremely close to her dogs and they just adore her.

This is proven by what the younger pup, Todd, did for his human that day. And being only six months old, you would never imagine him reacting the way that he did.

The six-month-old Golden Retriever jumped right in front of his human.

The bite that was intended for Paula, went right into Todd's face. “He jumped right in front of my leg where I surely would have got bit. This is what a hero looks like,” explained Paula.

The poor puppy's face quickly swelled up, so Paula jumped into action.

Without wasting a second, Paula grabbed her dogs and drove to the nearest veterinarian clinic. It was a venomous snake, after all, which could be fatal for a dog if not taken care of.

The veterinarian sprang to action the moment Paula arrived with Todd.

He was given a dose of anti-venom and kept for the day for observation. It looked like Todd was going to be just fine, despite being attacked by a venomous snake.

While they were at the park the following day, Paula updated her Facebook status.

She explained that Todd was recovering nicely and he was going to be just fine. He sure was one lucky pup, but that wasn't all that he was.

Todd wasn't just lucky, he was a true hero for his human.

“Todd for sure is my hero and I feel I have to say that the man up stairs ️surely is watching out for me, too," said Paula. There's really no denying it, Todd is special

Fortunately for them, Paula and Todd's story turned out well, but it gives us a helpful reminder.

While walking your dogs, or even if you're walking by yourself, be mindful of your surroundings. Don't approach snakes, and just turn around the other way!
