Pigeon And Tiny Puppy Can’t Be Separated & Love To Snuggle

Overall, animals are such funny creatures. One of the many interesting things about them is that often, different species become best friends. You’ve probably seen this in photos and videos plastered all over the internet. But usually, these include dogs and cats, cows and cats, bunnies and cats, and so on.

So, a lot of these include cats but dogs are no different. If they find another animal they like, they’ll do everything they can to make friends. This is what happened between two unlikely critters. In this case, a sweet puppy and a pigeon became inseparable.

Did you hear the one about the Chihuahua and the pigeon?

Okay, maybe not but you’re about to. A precious white Chihuahua and a gray pigeon were both at The Mia Foundation, a care facility that focuses solely on animals with special needs. Sometimes, the physical problems are the result of neglect and abuse while other times, the animals have some kind of birth defect.

The odd couple

Lundy, the Chihuahua, is only eight weeks old. Although adorable, this puppy isn’t able to walk. The pigeon, named Herman, can’t fly. Ever since the two met, they became the best of friends. On any given day, the staff finds them snuggled up together.

People can’t get enough of them

The veterinarian isn’t sure why Lundy can’t walk but his hind legs don’t work. As for Herman, they believe he lost his ability to fly either from a brain injury or as a result of the West Nile virus. But for now, these two receive outstanding care and a ton of love.

They met by accident

It all started when Gary Rogers, a staff member at the shelter, decided to remove Herman from his cage. He wanted the pigeon to have some free-roam time. So, without giving it any thought, he placed the bird in Lundy’s dog bed. And the rest is history. Immediately, they bonded.

Going global

Of course, Rogers had to share photos he’d captured of the two. So, he posted them on the shelter’s Facebook page. In no time, people from around the world started leaving comments. They’ve even received more than $6,000 in donations. While they’re such an unlikely duo, you can tell they have a real love for one another. Not only do they like to cuddle, but they love to play.

They turned the world upside down in only 48 hours

In just 48 hours after posting the photos, the internet went crazy. Yes, Herman is a good-looking fellow. But in referring to Lundy, Rogers had this to say, “This guy here has touched the hearts of millions of people.” Then with the two of them together, they’re unforgettable.

Few things are more precious

It’s not every day that you get to see a little puppy and a pigeon snuggling. But Lundy and Herman aren’t the only animals The Mia Foundation has helped. Opened in 2012, this shelter comes to the aid of all kinds of animals, including goats, turkeys, cats, horses, dogs, squirrels, and a donkey.

Herman will remain at the shelter for the rest of his life since he’s unadoptable. But Lundy is up for adoption. Right now, he’s barely two pounds and he’ll need a specialized wheelchair to get around. When he’s bigger, they’ll start taking applications from people who want to give him a forever home.
