After Couple Adopts 3 Kids, They Return Home One Day To Find Their House Completely Renovated

Neighbors In Nevada

Tisha and Kevin Beauchmin are your average couple; they didn’t have much time for their neighbors as they were both working full time and had five children of their own. Having seven members in their family meant that there were seven mouths to feed, so the couple worked as hard as possible to make ends meet. They live in Las Vegas, Nevada, where Tisha worked as a bingo cashier and Kevin as an asset protection security officer.

A Small Favor

Their neighbor, Audrey, a single mother of three children, hadn’t been feeling well over the past few months. After seeing her doctor, she was referred to do more tests at the local hospital, so she asked her next-door neighbor if she didn’t mind looking after her three children while she was overnight at the hospital. Tisha and Kevin had limited space in their home, but nevertheless, they agreed to take in Audrey’s kids for the night.

Happy To Help

The couple didn’t think much of their good deed, without giving it a second thought, they agreed. Tisha and her husband Kevin were happy to help Audrey by looking after her kids. Fortunately, all their kids all seemed to get along, which was great as the kids would have to share their rooms. The Beauchmin family had no idea just how much of an impact this one night would have on their lives from there on out.

Hospital Tests

Audrey explained that she didn’t seem too bothered about the state of her own health; she just wanted to know what was wrong and emphasized how important the tests would be because the symptoms she was experiencing were not going away. At least if she knew she could move on with her life. Her stay at the hospital was just standard procedure; she would have some tests done and possibly get an MRI scan if necessary.

What Was Going On?

Audrey never expected that one night at the Beauchmin’s to turn into two, then three, and eventually a whole week. Audrey’s condition was more complicated, and their one-night sleepover lasted a whole month. “She went into the hospital that Tuesday for the tests and was expecting to be released soon after, but her stay lasted 32 days,” Tisha said in an interview. By this time, Audrey knew what was wrong and had to tell her kids what was going on.

Her Diagnosis

The doctors gave Audrey a terrible diagnosis: she had cancer and only had a few months to live. During that time, all three of Audrey’s kids were seeing counselors, and their therapist started coming to Tisha’s house several times a week. There were three sessions of counseling per child and one group therapy for the kids.” Tisha wrote. Tisha had to work 40+ hours a week as she now had to be responsible for eight kids back home.

Her Diagnosis

She Had Been Released

One day Audrey finally called to let them know that she had been released from the hospital. Audrey’s three kids, along with Tisha and her family, were relieved to hear the good news. For now, they could breathe easily, and it seemed like things were looking up for them knowing that Audrey was discharged from the hospital, and things could get back to normal. Audrey was happy to be home again, but there was a looming cloud hanging over her head.

She Had Been Released

It Was Rough

One day Tisha received a phone call at work from an unknown number: their worst fears were realized as Audrey was back in the hospital and her kids needed to stay with Tisha again.  “The kids were used to it, but my family and I were not… It was rough,” she added. She had to call Audrey’s kids and let them know they had to come back to stay at her place. Tisha’s heart was breaking for those kids who had been put through so much already.

It Was Rough

A Shocking Question

By this time, Audrey’s kids were close to Tisha and her family, so when Tisha asked her if she knew how long she would be in the hospital this time, nothing could have prepared her for Audrey’s question. “I want to ask you if you can take care of my children when I go?” she requested. At first, Tisha was completely shocked by her question, but she immediately answered, “I just cried and said, YES! Seeing what they were going through, hearing about their past, these kids needed us, and we wanted to help them.”

A Shocking Question

Saying Goodbye

Audrey should have been released from the hospital a few days later, but she had slipped into a coma, meaning the worst had come. Tisha took Audrey’s three kids along with her own five out of school and to the hospital, telling them it was time to say their goodbyes. “They ended up spending hours at the hospital, and we stayed until the kids tired out, and seeing as there was no place to sleep, we decided to hug and kiss and say goodnight to Audrey.”

Saying Goodbye

Her Worst Moment

On her way home with the kids in the car, Tisha received a call from the hospital, it was one of the nurses. “Audrey had passed away a few minutes after we left. I stayed silent till we all got home, and then I told the kids…” Tisha wrote online. “This was my worst moment as a mother!” Both families were grief-stricken. Tisha immediately welcomed Audrey’s three children into her home as the news spread throughout the community.

Her Worst Moment

The Beauchmin’s House

Even though she and Kevin were struggling to make ends meet, she couldn’t bear the thought of abandoning Tisha’s kids in their darkest hour. A neighbor of the two families, Elizabeth Thames, had heard about what happened and knew about the Beauchmins’ living situation. They were ten people living in their small home. She wanted to help them, so she contacted Las Vegas’ Fox 5 Surprise Squad—a team of people known for helping those in need—and she told them of her neighbors’ situation.

They Deserve To Be Happy

Their story was so moving that Fox’s Surprise Squad couldn’t have been happier to come to visit Tisha to unleash the largest chain of surprises for her family. When a reporter asked Tisha why she felt compelled to take in Audrey’s children, Tisha answered, “I don’t want them ever to have to go through what I went through as a child. They’ve been through so much and knowing them; they deserve to be happy and live in a place they can call home.”

The Fox Squad

Soon enough there was a knock on the door from local news station Fox 5’s Surprise Squad who planned to make life better for the new family of 10. The Squad arranged accommodations for Tisha and her family for a week at a hotel, close to where she worked at the casino. With the help of a few others, they were able to finish about six weeks’ worth of work in just a few days.

Complete Renovation

All eight kids had to share beds at the time, their space was so cramped, but the Beauchmin’s could not afford any renovations. To be approved as foster parents to Audrey’s kids, Tisha and Kevin needed a partition installed across their loft where two children were sleeping in order to deem the home “fit” for the number of occupants. The news team revealed that they were going to fund the entire construction of the loft to alleviate the Beauchmins’ financial burden! Tisha couldn’t believe it.

The Renovation

From there, the construction team took over the house and completely renovated the interior. Not only did they build a wall to make an extra room, but they also replaced their furniture.  Tisha’s oldest daughter didn’t have her own private bedroom. She just slept in an open area next to the kitchen. Now, she has her own beautifully-designed private room. Tisha and her family received so much more than what they were expecting.

They Did A Little Bit Extra

The Beauchmin family only knew they would be adding a wall to their house. The team got started right away, and even though the loft’s partition was the only necessary construction work, the squad decided to do a little bit extra. Workers actually removed all of the Beauchmins’ furniture and cleaned the entire house so they could repaint every room of the house. The Surprise Squad was equipped to tackle every home renovation imaginable, and no job was too big or small.

And More…

The crew also equipped the family with new paint, carpets, and new furniture, so now all the kids had their own bed. The oldest, Chad, received $1500 toward a place of his own. And if that wasn’t enough, they also received a big new car, large enough to take the whole family around in as well as a year’s worth of free groceries! It was important for Tisha to begin classes to help her permanently adopt all three of Audrey’s kids, and with all the aid, now she was finally able to afford it.

And More…

The Family’s Return

The Surprise Squad, television crew, and the entire neighborhood showed up before the Beauchmins arrived back home. They were too excited for words as they watched the family return. How would the family react? Well, it’s safe to say that it was incredibly overwhelming for everyone, every room was totally transformed, and the family was floored with their new place; they knew this kind of thing doesn’t happen every day to just anyone.

These Are Our Children Now

“These are our children now,” Tisha said in an interview. How incredible that this busy mom of five took in three more kids without any hesitation? Tisha said she couldn’t turn Audrey down or abandon the kids, “I had to go into the foster care system, and I don’t want them ever to live through anything I had to deal with when I was a child. They’ve been through too much. They deserve a loving family and a place to call home.”

Such an outpouring of support from their entire community has helped the Beauchmin family remember that good things can and do happen, and despite their recent tragedy, they can rely on each other and their community.

She’s An Angel

We all have lots of neighbors that come in many shapes and sizes, but Tisha is truly an angel and what she did for Audrey and her kids cannot be underestimated. If she hadn’t taken those kids in, they probably would have wound up in an orphanage, separated or in the foster care system. Tisha herself became an orphan, and she couldn’t bear the thought, is it a coincidence that Audrey came to her for help? Isn’t it strange how things transpired?
