Steve Lickteig grew up thinking he was adopted by Don and Mary Jane Lickteig, a World War II veteran and his wife.

Don and Mary Jane owned a farm in Kansas where they raised Steve alongside their eight biological children.

Steve spent his first 18 years yearning for any information about the identity of his birth parents and the circumstances behind his adoption.

But here's the thing: Everyone else in the small Kansas town (including Steve's friends, neighbors, and schoolmates) knew the shocking truth except for him.

Just before high school graduation, Steve's two best friends finally sat him down to drop a bombshell.

As it turned out, the couple Steve thought were his adoptive parents were actually his biological grandparents …

And the woman he thought was his older sister, Joanie, was actually his biological mother!

Everything Steve thought he knew was a complete lie. He was angry, confused, and resentful. He confronted his parents, but Joanie kept denying the story until she finally admitted what had happened so many years ago.

The "lie" was buried again, never to be brought up — until Steve, who now works a successful radio producer, decided to turn his unbelievable story into a documentary.
