This elephant lived in chains for 50 years. Just look at what he did when he was rescued. Can you imagine what it must be like to spend years in prison to endure the pain from the shackles on your feet? Understand understanding that no one sees you as a living being, but only as a means to earn profit. That’s exactly what the elephant named Rajo experienced for 50 years until he finally got what every animal has an innate right to freedom.

Hello everybody. For 50 long years, this elephant walked along the dusty roads of India, entertaining tourists. When the kind people rescued him, signs of bullying and malnutrition were obvious and the emotional fear that Raju experienced all this time was no less traumatic. According to Sayeed Pooch of the Wildlife Rescue Society. Raju’s story is particularly tragic.
The poor animal was resold many times and according to some sources, he changed about 27 owners. When the elephant was finally found, he was starving and exhausted. The situation was so bad that he even tried eating paper and plastic. He had numerous injuries on his legs from iron spikes, which caused constant swelling. In July, the British charity Wildlife SOS did everything it could to rescue Raja from this miserable existence.

When the elephant realized that people had come to rescue him, he couldn’t contain his feelings and he cried. Until that day, the animal was in chains 24/7. The team was amazed to see tears roll down his face. During the rescue, it was obvious that he realized that we were rescuing him. Elephants are majestic, intelligent animals.
It’s hard to even try to imagine what he must have gone through this past half century, said Pooji. The rescue took place a year after the organization received notice of this situation. In cooperation with the local authorities, a lawsuit was initiated which finally helped take the poor animal from his awful owners. The team worked tirelessly all night to remove the shackles from his legs. After his rescue, Raja was transported to a special center where he received the treatment he needed before going to the reserve to start his new life there.

Raja was most likely stolen from his mother in the wild about 50 years ago. He has changed many owners since then, but has consistently suffered from abuse. Fortunately, his life has now become completely different and the elephant even looks happy. He didn’t even know what life without shackles was before we rescued him. But today he knows what freedom is and that people can be much kinder than those who’ve been around him most of his life.
